One of our driving principles is to uplift and champion members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and we fly the rainbow flag with joy in our corner of the city. We've often wondered about the lives of the people who lived, loved and worked in Holt Town before us. What kind of Queer experiences did they have? How were LGBTQIA+ people really living their lives? Over the last eight months, we've been researching into the history of Hope Mill and the surrounding area. We've unearthed amazing information relating to our building and the people who lived in our neighbourhood. Click on the photo above or the link below, to watch a short, fascinating video that delves into the LGBTQIA+ stories that we uncovered. From early written stories of Lesbian love to an 1880s drag ball, our corner of the city has always been a hotbed for Queer creativity and joy. Our project was made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to spend the last eight months researching into the history of Hope Mill, as part of our 200th birthday celebrations.
