DON QUIXOTE
LOWRY, SALFORD UNTIL SATURDAY
Over the years and in a variety of locations throughout the country, I've had the pleasure of enjoying several permutations of Carlos Acosta’s award -winning production of Don Quixote. In each case I've loved them. Now this welcome return to Lowry, Salford affords you the chance to view again this exciting production courtesy of Birmingham Royal Ballet - one of the world’s leading touring ballet companies.
Don Quixote introduces us to Cervantes’ famous knight as well as the lovers Kitri played by Beatrice Parma and Enrique Bejarano Vidal as Basilio. There was strong support throughout from the excellent company who portrayed a huge range of emotions from drama to comedy. They should be congratulated both as an ensemble as well as individually.
Carlos Acosta said: “It is a real joy to be reviving Don Quixote for UK audiences in 2026, bringing the heat of the Spanish sunshine to kick-start spring time. This production features everything from daring dance and cape-twirling matadors to beautiful costumes and stunning scenery. This ballet is very exotic it provides escapism into this amazing world of colour and the music has an amazing Spanish flavour."
Congratulations should also go to the excellent orchestra conducted by Thomas Jung.
As always, Birmingham Royal Ballet remains committed to bringing the very best of ballet to venues across the UK - ensuring audiences across the country have access to leading and entertaining dance from some of the world’s finest artists.
Don Quixote is full of thrilling pas de deux and impressive ensemble pieces. Why not treat yourself and the family to some Spanish sunshine in this vibrant production suitable for all ages. Catch it while you can.
