Until 30 March Dubbed ‘the worst singer in the world’, Glorious! is the hilarious, true story of American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins. Known for her flamboyant costumes, enigmatic performances and decidedly off-key voice, she gained a cult following in 1940s New York and counted Cole Porter and Enrico Caruso amongst her fans. Starring Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters as Florence, Glorious! follows Florence’s journey as she prepares for her concerts, builds an unlikely friendship with her accompanist and pursues her passion despite all odds. Nominated for Best New Comedy at the 2006 Olivier Awards and made into a film starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, Glorious! is written by Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow and the movie, Judy) and directed by Kirk Jameson (Song From Far Away, Madagascar the Musical). |
