BRB CINDERELLA AT LOWRY - REVIEW BY NATALIE ANGLESEY

BIRMINGHAM ROYAL BALLET PRESENTS CINDERELLA

LOWRY, SALFORD

 UNTIL THE 8TH MARCH 2025

It’s all happening at Lowry, Salford where Birmingham Royal Ballet brings Sir David Bintley’s magical production of Cinderella to life.

This ballet is one of my personal favourites and I was fortunate to see the very first performance of this magical Cinderella which has become one of the most popular ballets in BRB’s repertoire. It not only features sumptuous sets and costumes, virtuoso dance and magical transformations, which are all performed to Sergei Prokofiev’s sweeping musical score played live by the excellent Royal Ballet Sinfonia

This visually stunning production features incredible scenic and costume designs by acclaimed artist John Macfarlane and continues to thrill audiences around the world. For example, after this UK tour, this production will play at Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan in Japan (27 - 29 June).

One of the trademarks of BRB is that it encourages young soloists to further their careers and Enrique Bejarano Vidal lived up to all expectations in the challenging role of The Prince. He was an excellent partner to Beatrice Parma who makes a charming Cinderella. They were extremely well matched particularly in the pas de deux with its challenging lifts.

Much humour was supplied by the Wicked Stepmother played by Daria Stanciulescu with her two ugly daughters Ellis Small and and Olivia Chang Clarke. Gorgeous sets and stunning effects brought much applause throughout this enchanting production.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Director, Carlos Acosta adds: “Cinderella remains an enduring classic in the BRB canon and a firm audience favourite. John Macfarlane’s awe-inspiring designs, pairs perfectly with Sir David Bintley’s beautiful choreography and Prokofiev’s rousing music in this spellbinding production.

“Cinderella is one of our most visually stunning productions, demonstrating BRB’s commitment to touring the very best that ballet can offer to audiences across the UK, and around the globe.”

The packed auditorium rose as one to applaud this beloved fairy tale brought to life by BRB. Avid fans of this company will be booking fast for this visual spectacular so my advice is to book as soon as you can. You are in for a real treat!  Natalie Anglesey
