GHOST STORIES
LOWRY, SALFORD
UNTIL SATURDAY

We may love hearing about ghost stories but being involved in one of them is a very different thing as I found to my cost when I went to see Ghost Stories at the Lowry in Salford. This record breaking, sell-out production, which has also been a hit film, sees the return of Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson’s supernatural Ghost Stories which is currently on a UK Tour.
Promising a theatrical experience like no other, I was ready to put my nerves to the test! But I personally was disappointed. Last seen in the UK in 2019 when, after a celebrated run at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, the show transferred to the Ambassador’s Theatre for yet another successful West End Run.
The experienced cast includes Dan Tetsell (Rivals, Disney+) who plays Professor Goodman, David Cardy (Birds of a Feather, ITV) plays Tony Matthews and Clive Mantle (Casualty, BBC) plays Mike Priddle. Joining them is Eddie Loodmer-Elliott (Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness) as Simon Rifkind, with Lloyd McDonagh as The Others.
Professor Goodman, arch-sceptic, is out to debunk the paranormal, and embarks on an investigation of three apparent hauntings – as recounted by a night-watchman, a teenage boy, and a businessman awaiting his first child. Goodman finds himself at the outer limits of rationality, and is running out of explanations. That’s when we enter a world full of thrilling twists and turns, where the ultimate love-letter to horror is a fully sensory and electrifying encounter.
Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman say of
the return of their celebrated terrifying tales: “We are
beyond excited that Ghost Stories will be scaring the hell out of audiences
around the country in its first ever full national tour. It’s fifteen years
since we first brought screams, laughs, jumps and killer twists to the theatre
and we can’t wait to do it again. Are you brave enough to book?”
Ghost Stories is written and directed by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman. Originally directed by Jeremy Dyson, Andy Nyman and Sean Holmes. Set and Costume Design are by Jon Bausor, with Lighting Design by James Farncombe, The Sound Design is by Nick Manning, with Special Effects by Scott Penrose. Movement Director is Lloyd McDonagh, and Costume Supervisor is Rebecca Gunstone with Props Supervisor Will Edwards.
It may not be to everyone's taste but the packed auditorium at The Lowry rose as one to applaud this production which had many of them screaming with a mixture of terror and delight.
