COME FROM AWAY - REVIEW BY NATALIE ANGLESEY

                  COME FROM AWAY

 LOWRY, SALFORD

3rd DECEMBER TO 5th JANUARY 2025

If Christmas preparations are becoming depressing and you need reassurance about how lucky we are to be on this planet, I recommend you head to Lowry, Salford to see Come From Away. This international hit musical is here for a four week festive run as part of its first ever UK tour. Winner of Best New Musical Awards around the globe, this is the incredible real-life story of seven thousand air passengers, who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11. A  small Newfoundland community invited these ‘come from aways’ into their community and their hearts and lives.

You too can experience this joyous story with its uplifting music performed by a cast of  spirited locals and global passengers who forge lasting friendships. The first female American  Airlines captain, the quick-thinking town mayor, and the mother of a New York firefighter are among the real life characters caught at the moment that changed history. Their stories became a true celebration of survival, humanity and unity.

This international hit musical has celebrated record-breaking global engagements in London's West End, and on Broadway, as well as in Canada, Australia, and North America. Played through without an interval, this global success is on its first ever UK & Ireland tour, direct from the West End where it played to packed houses at the Phoenix Theatre.

Forgive the list but don’t forget this performance is about the value of life. The experienced cast not only act superbly but sing and dance their way through several different roles as well as their own named characters. They include Natasha J Barnes, Daniel Crowder, Mark Dugdale, Rosie Glossop, Amanda Henderson and Kirsty Hoiles. Whilst also playing several roles are Oliver Jacobson, Dale Mathurin, Nicholas Pound and Sara Poyzer.  Also in this hard-working line- up are Bree SmithJamal Zulfiqar and Angeline Bell with Daniel CaneAshleigh HarveyAlyn Hawke, Kathryn Pemberton, and Kevin Yates. They all deserved a medal as well as their standing ovation.

The superbly talented creative team includes Irene Sankoff and David Hein (Book, Music and Lyrics). Director Christopher Ashley combined these talented individuals into retelling an incredible story. Kelly Devine (Musical Staging), Ian Eisendrath (Music Supervision & Arrangements), Beowulf Boritt (Scenic Design), and Toni-Leslie James (Costume Design), Howell Binkley (Lighting Design) with Gareth Owen (Sound Design).

Come From Away is produced in the UK by Smith & Brant Theatricals in association with Curve.
