Poynton Party in the Park returned at the weekend in record numbers as organiser’s hail the event a huge success bringing in the festival’s highest ever attendance figure since the annual fundraiser launched more than 20 years ago.

The sun was shining down on this year’s event which took place on Saturday, 8 June at Poynton Park and was headlined by disco superstars Odyssey.

The band, who formed in New York in the 1970s, performed all their biggest disco classics live including top five hits Native New Yorker, Inside Out, disco anthem Going Back to My Roots and the UK number one Use it Up & Wear it Out.

They took to the main stage, sponsored by Hall & Pickles, in front of a huge crowd of thousands for a special full-length concert nearly 50 years after their iconic single Native New Yorker rocketed up the charts around the world. The band went on to sell millions of records worldwide in the 1970s and 1980s.

The incredible line up continued with a selection of talented local performers supporting the American hitmakers, including the brilliant Housemartins tribute band The Shedmartins; Manchester singer/songwriter Imogen Paige; the brilliant Soulvation Band who deliver soul, funk, Motown and disco classics; Liverpool-based indie band The Garnetts and party in the park favourites, Poynton’s very own Monkey Harris Band returned by popular demand.

This year the party in the park was staged by local festival organiser Max Eden working alongside founders Poynton Rotary who delivered a refreshingly updated event for all the family to enjoy.

Max Eden said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the turn out on Saturday which has now been confirmed as the largest number of people attending Poynton Party in the Park in its 20-year history, with thousands enjoying the party. As well as local people, they came from across the region and enjoyed a fantastic sunny day with live entertainment, amazing family attractions and the best food and drink from the local area – it was the perfect line-up for a good party!

“The event continues to be a not-for-profit event and the money raised for Poynton Rotary enables them to continue the incredible work they do locally in supporting charities and community groups in our area. I would like to thank all the volunteers for their help and the sponsors and supporters of the event.

“After the success of this year, we can confirm that the event will return in June 2025”
