Starry Fund-Raiser at Hope Mill Theatre

 DAME MAUREEN LIPMAN TO PRESENT

‘A CELEBRATION OF MUSIC HALL’ FUNDRAISER

SUNDAY 1st OCTOBER AT HOPE MILL THEATRE, MANCHESTER.

Theatre, film and television legend, and Weatherfield’s only real-life Dame, the incomparable Dame

Maureen Lipman, is to present A Celebration of Music Hall fundraiser at Manchester’s Hope Mill

Theatre on Sunday 1st October at 8pm with all proceeds going towards the theatre’s charitable

missions, which includes their Community Programmes and bringing world-class Musical Theatre &

new writing to one of the most deprived areas in Manchester.

Joining Dame Maureen Lipman on stage will be some very special guests from the most famous

cobbled street in TV history including Daniel Brocklebank, Clare Sweeney, Jodie Prenger, Rob

Mallard, Shelley King, Jamie Kenna, Sue Devaney, Tony Maudsley, and others, all coming

together to pay homage and celebrate the iconic era of the Music Hall by way of song, comedy &

unique performances.

The Great British Music Hall was a cultural phenomenon that thrived in the Victorian age as a venue

for theatre and musical acts. It became synonymous with inexpensive entertainment in the 1800s where

the public were treated to a wide range of performances. Some of the biggest stars to emerge during

this period were George Robey, Vesta Tilly, Dan Leno, Harry Champion and, most famously, singer

& comedian Marie Lloyd.

Tickets for A Celebration of Music Hall cost £80 and will include an arrival drink, a 3-course meal of

pre-show starter, pie mash and gravy, and an interval homemade brownie & ice cream. A suggested

GiftAid-eligible donation of £20 can be added to ticket purchases going directly towards supporting

the young people in the Hope Mill Theatre School, where 50% of all places are fully funded

scholarships for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford this training and all the benefits it

brings.
