Manchester to celebrate International Womens Day

 Manchester will mark International Women’s Day with a 'Walk for Women’ through the city on Sunday 6 March. 

Following a two-year hiatus, hundreds of women and supporters of women will be able to demonstrate their support for IWD as they proudly walk through the city.  Participants are encouraged to make the most of their voices by joining in with the women-led chants and singing.  Those in attendance are also encouraged to bring along fun, safe and noisy instruments, to bang and clang. 

 The walk will start at 12.30pm on Liverpool Road outside the Castlefield Urban Heritage Park, it will go down Deansgate and will end outside of Manchester Cathedral. The total length of the walk is around 1.3km. 

 Large groups, businesses and organisations are encouraged to get involved and register for an official place in the Walk for Women. As part of Our Year, young women will be encouraged and supported to attend this. 

 Councillor Sam Lynch, Lead Elected Member for Women, said: 

 “After having to cancel celebrations last year due to the Pandemic we’re happy to be back on the streets of Manchester and to build on the passion we’ve seen in previous years. Whether you’re a lone ranger or part of a group, we’d love to see you walking with us- we cannot wait to rise, roar and represent women.” 

Councillor Becky Chambers, Lead Elected Member for Women, said:   

 “International Women's Day is an important date marking the economic, political and social achievements of women. However, as we all know there is still inequality and women have not reached parity just yet. When we celebrate the wonderful women who have fought for us, we should also be conscious of the steps we need to take in the future to aid women and future generations.” 

 After the walk , the Manchester City Council International Women’s Day steering group will also be hosting a ticketed event on Saturday 12 March in Central Library. The festival (#IWDMcrFestival) features musical performances, speeches from influential and strong women in and around Manchester, dance, spoken word, community group talks and an exhibition.

The Osmonds - A New Musical next year!

The Osmond's new musical is coming to Manchester!  M y best friend was an avid Osmond fan in her teens and she still is. Twelve Angry Men at The Lowry - Review by Natalie Anglesey

  Twelve Angry Men The Lowry, Salford Review by Natalie Anglesey   Following previous record-breaking West End seasons, and a critically acclaimed tour in 2023, Bill Kenwright Ltd’s powerful production of  Twelve Angry Men  is at  The Lowry  this week until   2 nd  March 2024. Ever since the powerful fifties film starring Henry Fonda, which was nominated three times for Academy Awards, and since then, several stage productions over the years, this splendid court-room drama has never failed to impress me. Now there’s the chance for you to see Reginald Rose’s knife-edge courtroom drama at The Lowry all this week. The cast is now headed by  Jason Merrells  ( Casualty, Emmerdale )  taking over the role of Juror 8 from Patrick Duffy for the 2024 tour. He subtly holds  the whole production together.
