Donate a book, Christmas inspiration and bookshop news!

We are gearing up to Christmas in the bookshop - our busiest time of the year! We're hoping to see lots of you over the next month and are excited to help you find the perfect Christmas gifts for your friends and family. To get you started, we have our CHRISTMAS CATALOGUE where you can browse our amazing selection of new releases, stocking fillers, and gift ideas for adults and children. You can pick up a physical copy of the catalogue in the bookshop, or you can browse the catalogue online by following the link below. From brand new cookbooks to page-turning fiction to gorgeous picture books, we have something for everyone! Of course, we are always happy to give personalised recommendations if you're stuck on someone tricky or need a little extra help so do call or email us or, of course, pop into the shop!

We are so excited to finally share our NEW WEBSITE with you! It has been a very long time in the making as it was - like lots of things! - side-lined by the pandemic, but it is here and we're delighted with how it has turned out. It is now easier to navigate, more modern, and still very much us! You can use our website to find our online shop, buy tickets for our events, and find out about our news and what we're reading. All our contact details and opening hours are on there so you can easily get in touch and find the information you need in the busy run up to Christmas. Have a look and let us know what you think.

Opening a new book is one of the greatest excitements and pleasures for any child – but sadly not every child has the chance to enjoy the wonderful books we often take for granted. That’s why a couple of years ago we launched our own ‘GIFT A BOOK’ scheme. We teamed up with Salford Women's Aid and Wood Street Mission so that even children in the most difficult circumstances can wake up to find a book in their stocking.

We haven't got as long this year to get all the books beautifully wrapped and sent out for the children.  Donations are slowly trickling in, and thank you so much if you have donated - and if you haven't yet, and feel you could, then please, please do! 

Once you've chosen a book or made a donation the magic Simply Books Bookshop Elves will take your gift, wrap it up and send it to its new home, ready to be opened and treasured on Christmas Day!

The closing date for making donations this year is Friday 10th December

The Osmonds - A New Musical next year!

The Osmond's new musical is coming to Manchester!  M y best friend was an avid Osmond fan in her teens and she still is. Personally I've had the pleasure of interviewing Donny Osmond for @BBCRadioManchester and I also became a fan!  It's that kind of unfailing dedication that the Osmonds have held on to over the past 50 plus years.Now Osmondmania is returning to Manchester with a musical by Jay Osmond which tells the story of the brothers from Utah who were in the spotlight as children and went on to sell over 100 million records gaining a huge army of fans. From their star residency on The  Andy Williams  Show, to the arrival of Donny and Marie, The Osmonds lived a remarkable life recording chart topping albums, selling out vast arena concerts and making record breaking TV shows - until one bad decision cost them everything. Twelve Angry Men at The Lowry - Review by Natalie Anglesey

  Twelve Angry Men The Lowry, Salford Review by Natalie Anglesey   Following previous record-breaking West End seasons, and a critically acclaimed tour in 2023, Bill Kenwright Ltd’s powerful production of  Twelve Angry Men  is at  The Lowry  this week until   2 nd  March 2024. Ever since the powerful fifties film starring Henry Fonda, which was nominated three times for Academy Awards, and since then, several stage productions over the years, this splendid court-room drama has never failed to impress me. Now there’s the chance for you to see Reginald Rose’s knife-edge courtroom drama at The Lowry all this week. The cast is now headed by  Jason Merrells  ( Casualty, Emmerdale )  taking over the role of Juror 8 from Patrick Duffy for the 2024 tour. He subtly holds  the whole production together. The cast also includes   Tristan Gemmill  ( Coronation Street, Casualty ),   Michael Greco  (EastEnders,   The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.) BenNealon  ( Soldier,Soldierand  Doctors)
